Australia’s <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://www.champequity.com.au/">CHAMP Private Equity</a> has made a strategic investment in <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://www.pepperstone.com/">Pepperstone</a>, the Melbourne-based global forex broker, to facilitate its growth on a global scale.
&#8220;For Pepperstone to have the backing of one of Australia&#8217;s leading private equity firms as a significant investor and business partner is extremely exciting for us,” Owen Kerr, CEO of Pepperstone said. “We feel this investment will exponentially assist in achieving our goal of becoming the world&#8217;s number 1 FX Broker.&#8221;
Pepperstone was founded in 2010 by Owen Kerr and Joe Davenport and since then has grown into one of the top 10 FX brokers globally. It currently offers platforms for both retail and institutional clients with transaction over $100 billion in forex turnover each month and with offices in Melbourne, Shanghai and Dallas.
Pepperstone plans to open offices in multiple new regions this year, and considers acquiring market leaders in certain key regions or looking at unique technology providers that may be complementary to its current offering.
“We are now actively seeking acquisitions and we have had numerous inbound inquiries since the deal was announced. If anything I would feel this would accelerate our timeline to IPO in the future,” Owen told <a style="color: #000080;" href="https://leaprate.com/2016/03/pepperstones-owen-kerr-on-champ-investment-leaprate-exclusive-interview/">LeapRate</a>.
He added that the firm would announce its expansion in Europe next week.
CHAMP has had a long history in the Australian investment market, dating back to 1987. With over $2 billion in funds under management, its core focus is on the Australian and New Zealand markets, but with an international reach extending into Asia and North America.
