While e-commerce major, Amazon has invested $200 million more in its Indian operations, German consumer goods major Henkel AG may invest in Jyothy Laboratories.
<h3>Amazon invests $200m more in India unit</h3>
Global e-commerce giant <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://dealstreetasia.com/tag/amazon">Amazon</a> has invested an additional $200 million in its India unit this year, according to<a style="color: #000080;" href="http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/small-biz/startups/amazon-invests-additional-rs-1350-crore-in-its-india-unit-to-accelarate-growth/articleshow/52544459.cms"> a report</a> in The Economic Times quoting a regulatory filings on May 31.
With this latest investment in Amazon Seller Services, the total capital infused by Amazon in its main India unit since early 2015 stands at Rs 8,618 crore ($1.3 billion). The money came in March, a few weeks before India introduced discounting and vendor-related restrictions for online marketplaces, said the report.
It was recently reported that Amazon India has almost doubled its authorized capital to Rs.16,000 crore ($2.4 billion), exceeding its initial commitment of $2 billion made in July 2014.
<h3>Henkel AG may invest in Jyothy Labs</h3>
German consumer goods firm <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://www.henkel.com/">Henkel AG</a> might invest in <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://www.jyothylaboratories.com/">Jyothy Laboratories</a>, fabric care and detergent products maker, this year, as per a Business Standard <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://www.business-standard.com/article/companies/henkel-likely-to-invest-in-jyothy-labs-116060101329_1.html">report</a>.
Ullas Kamath, joint managing director and chief financial officer of Jyothy, said all “indications were positive” that Henkel would put in a bid, though nothing had been finalised.
“The option is open for them to come and talk to us. We were waiting for the board meeting (on May 23) to get over. That has happened. They can talk to us now. The option for them to invest in the company will close in March 2017,” said Kamath.
When Jyothy had acquired Henkel&#8217;s Indian arm in 2011, the German firm had the option to pick up to 26 per cent stake in Jyothy after five years. It now seems that it will exercise that option.
