“This year is a transitional year and if the planned projects come through as expected, we plan to invest (more),” said Christian Heugas, general manager, construction materials, JJ-Pun.
The added investment is likely to be less than $1 million and might be used for acquiring more equipment for their existing manufacturing plant in Dagon Seikkan industrial zone in Yangon, said the GM.
Since their opening of their factory in 2014, JJ-Pun Tiostone has been producing concrete hollow blocks and pavers that target the industrial level B2B market in the country.
JJ-Pun Tiostone is a 50:50 joint venture between Hong Kong’s <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://tiostone.com/home/" target="_blank">Tiostone Holdings</a> and <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://www.jj-pun.com" target="_blank">JJ-Pun</a>.They have put in an initial investment of $1 million, mainly to fund the German technology and equipment.
“While most foreign contractors and developers already understand the quality of our products well, new technologies usually need time until they’re broadly accepted in the local markets. This process can be seen in most developing countries and we’re working closely with local contractors and developers, in order to educate them about the advantages of our product,” Heugas told DEALSTREETASIA.
The company is targeting airport terminals, ports and hotel projects in Yangon as future customers.
Tiostone Environmental Ltd, a sister company of Tiostone Holdings Ltd based in Hong Kong produces concrete products made of recycled materials, such as Eco-Glass Block and Eco-Glass Cement.
However, using recycled products for the cement blocks in Myanmar is a long-term project. “Recycling in the country is a bit early. (The plan is to ) first introduce the new product as it is and at a later stage move towards recycling options,” said Heugas.
Some of the concrete related investments that were given a green light to invest in 2016 include SG Pann Ayeyar Co Ltd, an investment from Singapore for the manufacturing and sales for ready-mixed concrete work in Yangon, Smart Concrete Products Co Ltd, a JV from Singapore for the manufacturing and sales of smart wall concrete panels, NC &amp; Maga Co Ltd from Japan for manufacturing of concrete pole and piles, Great wall Building Materials Co Ltd from China for concrete bricks and light weight composite bricks and SCG Myanmar Concrete and Aggregate Co Ltd from Thailand for the ready-mixed, precast and reinforced concrete work in Yangon.
