Philippine venture capital firm PLDT Capital has invested $5 million in US-based <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://www.matrixx.com/" target="_blank">Matrixx Software</a>, a provider of real-time, integrated infrastructure for the business of digital service providers.
PLDT Capital co-managing director Winston Damarillo said the decision was both an investment and commitment to integrate Matrixx into the product line of its parent company &#8211; the Philippine-listed telco giant <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://pldt.com">PLDT Group</a> &#8211; and its mobile carrier unit <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://smart.com.ph/corporate">Smart Communications</a>.
Damarillo said the latest investment is part of PLDT Capital&#8217;s strategy to create an innovation bridge between leading suppliers of consumer technologies around the world and PLDT&#8217;s market in the Philippines.

Matrixx is now the fifth company that PLDT has supported through its investment arm PLDT Capital since the latter was founded last September 2015 with a  $50 million fund.
&#8220;This is very consistent [with our strategy]. We invested in companies that we eventually integrated as ingredients to our products,&#8221; Damarillo said, recalling the venture capital&#8217;s investments in internet TV service provider <a style="color: #000080;" href="https://www.iflix.com/#krS5t7zOg8mmBRLI.97">iflix</a>, then <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://www.appcard.com" target="_blank">AppCard</a> for consumer loyalty, <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://www.phunware.com">Phunware</a> for mobile platforms, and joint venture with <a style="color: #333399;" href="http://gohopscotch.com" target="_blank">Hopscotch</a> for fans and retail engagements.
Prior to the $5 million funding, Smart recently tapped Matrixx to enable them to deliver an array of lifestyle services and content that can be individually purchased and customized. The goal is to give Smart customers the freedom to manage their mobile account usage and spend, tailor services and choose &#8220;sachet-size&#8221; packages based on their preferences and budgets.

Within a few weeks, the Silicon Valley-based tech firm has installed and integrated its solution of a real-time, customer-centric digital commerce platform for creating and monetising content and services.
Damarillo said Matrixx is likely to go beyond supporting Smart in its billing of phone services; it is also expected to capture wallet-share and customer loyalty in the dynamic, fast-paced market.
Matrixx founder, CEO and CTO Dave Labuda said the PLDT Group continues to be their model of prestigious companies that are investors as well as customers.

&#8220;[PLDT Group] are genuinely changing the game in Asia when it comes to digital service innovation, and we’re excited to help deliver outstanding experiences to customers of its wireless service provider, Smart Communications,&#8221; Labuda said.
PLDT Group claimed to have nearly 70 million wireless subscribers.
The company traded last at P1,979 which was up by 0.61 per cent or P12.00 since Tuesday.
