Singapore-based technology media platform e27 has launched its latest platform feature, the <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://e27.co/marketplace" target="_blank">e27 Marketplace</a>.
This is a site feature designed as a means for any company listed on the e27 database to list deals for technology products and services to the e27 readership.
According to a release, this new addition to their offerings is aligned with the &#8220;company’s vision of empowering technology entrepreneurship by developing relevant products and services to serve the needs of a startup and the wider technology industry and market.&#8221;
Currently, Marketplace hosts over 50 products and services, featuring deals from firms like PayrollHero, SurveyMonkey, SoftLayer, and Paypal. In an official statement, the company said that its new marketplace feature will only focus on information technology (IT) B2B products and services, eventually open up to more B2C startups.
<a style="color: #000080;" href="https://sg.linkedin.com/in/jitsiongkoh" target="_blank">Thaddeus Koh</a>, COO and CFO of e27 explained, “The creation of Marketplace was an organic decision from the team. Every day we keep getting inquiries for the latest products and services on hand. At the same time, we also have a lot of businesses who want us to review and showcase their products. So the Marketplace was born.”
Given the difficulties that new business ventures face, this new tool is oriented as a tool for both digital entrepreneurial ventures, new businesses and more mature ventures in disseminating and marketing their products and services to various communities. In essence, the new digital marketplace feature is designed to facilitate enhanced marketing communication and as a platform for the startup community to interact &#8220;in a unique and meaningful way&#8221;, according to e27.
The platform works both for suppliers who want to list their offers, and for customers who want to claim exclusive deals and discounts. With the launch, both parties can access the digital marketplace on the main website.

“The idea is to create a niche, collaborative community where tech helps tech. That’s the motto of the Marketplace,” says <a style="color: #000080;" href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/mohanbelani" target="_blank">Mohan Belani</a>, CEO and founder of e27. “Focusing on industries that clearly help startups is the best way in helping these entrepreneurs grow themselves and their businesses.”
Signing up as a supplier on the marketplace requires interested businesses to create a supplier and company profile, which will be verified by the e27 team. Upon approval, suppliers can proceed to post their offers on the e27 Marketplace by filling in the necessary product details and requirements. e27 also adds a layer of support in helping these suppliers advertise their deals on the Marketplace.
To claim offers on the marketplace, customers need to sign up on the e27 website, with the claiming of an offer directing them to vendors via email or an external page. The addition of the marketplace is claimed by the firm as &#8220;&#8230;focusing its energy in giving more impactful resources to its communities; a lot of which is focusing on providing useful information to the right people.&#8221;
With the recent entry of new players, such as Digital News Asia, Tech in Asia and DEALSTREETASIA, competition is intensifying in the digital media space of Southeast Asia and the AsiaPacific (APAC).
Earlier this year, in June 2015, DEALSTREETASIA reported that Tech in Asia secured a Series C investment worth US$4 million, involving high-profile investors such as Facebook co-founder <a style="color: #000080;" href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/saverin" target="_blank">Eduardo Saverin</a> and Nitrous.io founder <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://Thaddeus%20Koh, COO and CFO of e27" target="_blank">Andrew Solimine</a>. Following this, e27 was reported to have secured a $650,000 bridging round in preparation for what was described by Belani as a larger funding round targeting for closing at the end of 2015.
Regarding the future endeavours of e27, Belani only has this to say: “The great thing about information is not how much you have, but how you use it. Stay tuned.”
