Southeast Asia witnessed a pick up in private equity (PE) investments in the third quarter of 2016 at $1.72 billion spent across 30 deals, a positive news when compared to a muted first half of year, largely driven by fundraising by two ride hailing applications– GrabTaxi and Go-Jek.
The proceeds from the latest investment round will support required investments in the group’s businesses, which will facilitate Yello Mobile’s future expansion.
“As IBM is a global business, emerging markets are very important for us because that’s where a lot of the growth in the tech industry and in business is happening.”
In Asia, Cisco has invested in accelerators in Japan and South Korea, and “is in the process of investing in accelerators in Southeast Asia”, said Pratik Bose, the tech giant’s head of private equity and venture capital, corporate development strategy and M&A.
