The total marked an 84% decline from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dealstreetasia.com\/stories\/se-asia-deal-review-july-2025-452702\/\">July\u2019s $1.47 billion raised from 35 deals<\/a>, when US investor Stonepeak\u2019s $1.3 billion capital injection into Singapore-based data centre operator <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dealstreetasia.com\/stories\/princeton-digital-group-stonepeak-449672\/\">Princeton Digital Group<\/a> boosted the region\u2019s funding numbers.<\/p><p>On a year-on-year basis, funding in August 2025 was down 25% from $310 million in August 2024, highlighting the cooling appetite for large-scale investments in the region\u2019s startups.<\/p><div class=\"flourish-embed flourish-chart\" data-src=\"visualisation\/25130602\"><script src=\"https:\/\/public.flourish.studio\/resources\/embed.js\"><\/script><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/public.flourish.studio\/visualisation\/25130602\/thumbnail\" width=\"100%\" alt=\"chart visualization\" \/><\/noscript><\/div><p>The largest deal in August was sealed by Singapore-based oat milk startup <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dealstreetasia.com\/search\/page\/1?s=Oatside&amp;sort_by=recent\">Oatside<\/a>, which secured about $43.2 million in a funding round backed by Asian secondary private equity firm TR Capital and venture capital investor Granite Asia (formerly known as GGV Capital).<\/p><p>The second-largest deal was valued at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dealstreetasia.com\/stories\/qapita-issues-fresh-shares-454411\/\">$26.5 million raised by Qapita<\/a>, the Singapore-headquartered equity management platform. The company issued shares to a new investor, The Charles Schwab Corporation, and existing investors Citicorp North America and MassMutual Ventures.<\/p><p>No deal topped $100 million in August, underscoring the month\u2019s reliance on the smaller, early- and mid-stage transactions.<\/p><p>Out of the 36 deals publicly announced in August, nine did not disclose funding size. Navarrete, managing partner and founder of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dealstreetasia.com\/search\/page\/1?s=Kickstart%20Ventures&amp;sort_by=recent\">Kickstart Ventures<\/a>, struck an optimistic note. &#8220;When you look at the numbers, there is growth in specific sectors. Certainly, when we look at investments, whether it is in Southeast Asia or outside the region, we are seeing some signs of growth sectors,&#8221; Navarrete said at the recently concluded <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dealstreetasia.com\/section\/asia-pe-vc-summit-2025\">Asia PE-VC Summit 2025<\/a>, organised by DealStreetAsia in Singapore.<\/p><h3>Singapore holds ground<\/h3><p>Singapore retained its dominance in August, accounting for $183 million, or 79% of total funding, across 22 transactions. Of the top 10 deals in August by value, eight were signed in Singapore, with Oatside and Qapita leading the pack.<\/p><p>The city-state\u2019s average deal size, based on deals with disclosed funding amount, stood at $10.2 million, down sharply from $93.4 million in July, which was driven by the Princeton Digital deal.<\/p><p>Despite the steep month-on-month contraction, the city-state continued to attract the lion\u2019s share of capital, reflecting its entrenched role as the region\u2019s venture capital hub.<\/p><div class=\"flourish-embed flourish-chart\" data-src=\"visualisation\/25130617\"><script src=\"https:\/\/public.flourish.studio\/resources\/embed.js\"><\/script><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/public.flourish.studio\/visualisation\/25130617\/thumbnail\" width=\"100%\" alt=\"chart visualization\" \/><\/noscript><\/div><p>Indonesia ranked second with $37.3 million from seven deals, supported by activity in fintech and consumer-focused sectors.<\/p><p>The largest Indonesian deal was worth $16.7 million, raised by jobs platform <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dealstreetasia.com\/stories\/pintarnya-square-peg-453833\/\">Pintarnya<\/a> in a Series A round led by Square Peg and backed by existing backers Vertex Ventures Southeast Asia &amp; India and East Ventures.<\/p><p>Malaysia followed with $7.5 million across five deals, while Thailand logged $5.2 million from two transactions. There were no publicly announced deals in Vietnam, the Philippines, and Myanmar during the month.<\/p><h3>Fintech tops the sectors<\/h3><p>Fintech once again led sector activity, raising $102.5 million from eight deals, nearly 44% of the month\u2019s total.
