International Finance Corporation (<a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/tag/IFC/">IFC</a>) global head of venture capital Nikunj Jinsi has stepped down from his position at the investment organization, according to a report by Axios.
The report cited a recent email sent by Jinsi to friends and colleagues, announcing his decision:
&#8220;On this incredible journey, the USD1.5bn invested by IFC (leveraged roughly 10x by other sources of funding) both in direct and VC fund managers, has touched more than 30 mm students, 3mm patients and 12 mm consumers, amongst others. The combined value of our current direct portfolio companies has reached US$20 BN+ and spans key sectors such as health, education, energy, logistics, e-mobility, enterprise technology, space and more.&#8221;
Following his departure, it is understood that IFC has retained a search firm to find a successor, but the process only kicked off last month.
Jinsi assumed the position of global head of venture capital investment in 2013 to lead the firm’s investments in the venture capital space, building a large portfolio of direct and fund investments.
He joined IFC in 2003, when took up the role of global head for clean technology investments for the organization for almost a decade.
On his Linkedin profile, Jinsi claims to have been responsible for all direct VC investments globally, developing digital businesses in various fields including health, education, clean-tech and transport. He also co-heads IFC’s LP investment programme for VC managers globally, having developed the largest VC GP network with 45 emerging market managers, for total commitments of over $500 million.
IFC, which is a member of the World Bank Group, is known to be a limited partner in most of the first-time funds in SEA. In the VC space, it is known to have backed one of the funds of HK-based Arbour Ventures, while its Southeast Asian portfolio include seed-stage funds of Wavemaker Partners, Jungle Ventures and Jungle SeedPlus.
Last month, the firm announced in a disclosure that it was considering an equity investment of up to $25 million in a venture capital fund being raised by India’s A91 Partners.
