People Dealbook: Snapdeal exec joins MOPE; Shardul & Cyril Amarchand hire new partners

Snapdeal’s Amit Choudhary has joined Motilal Oswal Private Equity Investment Advisors (MOPE), Shardul Amarchand has appointed 17 new partners and rival Cyril Amarchand hired one partner and seven lawyers.

Snapdeal’s executive Amit Choudhary joins MOPE as director

Amit Choudhary, senior vice-president, corporate finance of e-commerce firm Snapdeal, has joined Motilal Oswal Private Equity Investment Advisors (MOPE) as director of its private equity business.

Choudhary, who has more than a decade of experience in consumer facing businesses, recently invested in a car pooling startup Cloudcar.

In his role as director at MOPE, he will be responsible for driving and managing investments in consumer businesses.

Shardul Amarchand promotes 16 lawyers as partners, appoints Cognizant’s GV Anand Bhushan as head of Chennai office

Law firm Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas has promoted 16 lawyers to partners and has also appointed GV Anand Bhushan as head of its Chennai office from Cognizant Technology Solutions.

The 16 partners include Anuj Bhasme, Avnish Sharma, Anu Susan Abraham, Divi Datta, Ekta Gupta, Kanishk, Natashaa Shroff, Pooja Ramchandani, Promode Muruguvelu and Roopal Kulsreshta in corporate practice; Akhil Anand, Binsy Susan and Ila Kapoor in dispure resolution; and Muzammil Husain and Charu Mehta in intellectual property & tax practices.

With this, the total number of partners increased to 85 at its offices in New Delhi, Mumbai, Gurgaon, Ahmedabad, Bangalore and Kolkata.

Cyril Amarchand hires Sidhartha Barua as partner, 7 others as lawyers

Law firm Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas has appointed Sidhartha Barua as partner at its New Delhi office, who would be part of the firm’s disputes practice.

Barua joined the law firm from AZB Partners.

The company has also appointed seven other lawyers from AZB. These include Umang Pathak & Juvraj Singh as principal associates, Manpreet Lamba as senior associate; and Shaurya Singh, Akshat Razdan, Madhav Khosla, Shivank Singh as associates. They all will be a part of the company’s dispute practice and based out of its New Delhi office.
