In multiple people-related developments, Eight Roads Ventures has appointed former Goldman Sachs executive Shweta Bhatia as partner for its India team with immediate effect, while Avendus Capital has hired Puneet Renjhen as Executive Director in its investment banking division. Meanwhile, Blackstone has announced the appointment of Yan Yan as a Managing Director in its real estate team in Asia.
Eight Roads names Shweta Bhatia as Partner
Eight Roads Ventures, the investment arm of Fidelity International, has appointed Shweta Bhatia as partner for its India team with immediate effect, it announced on Monday.
Bhatia brings technology, consumer and financial services experience following over a decade of private equity and finance experience at Goldman Sachs, most recently as head of Asia investments for the venture capital & growth equity team of Goldman Sachs Investment Partners, it said in a statement.
She began her career at Goldman Sachs in New York City, followed by three years at Warburg Pincus, before returning to Goldman Sachs in 2010. In her new role at Eight Roads, Bhatia will identify new investment opportunities and advise the growing India portfolio. She will work out of the Mumbai office.

Avendus appoints Puneet Renjhen as Exec Director
Avendus Capital on Monday announced the appointment of Puneet Renjhen as Executive Director. Renjhen will report to Gaurav Deepak, Managing Director and Head of Investment Banking.
Till recently, Renjhen worked with Standard Chartered and prior to that with Citigroup, Kotak and Lazard in investment banking across London, Singapore, Mumbai and Delhi. With Renjhen’s addition, Avendus enhances its senior leadership team and the ability to focus on bigger and multidimensional transactions, it said in a statement.
“As our brand grows we are finding an increasing number of opportunities to work on larger and more complex transactions. These need single minded focus and longer sales cycles. Puneet will be working across sectors in collaboration with the sector leads to focus on larger transactions and on requirements of conglomerates,” Deepak said.
Blackstone gets Yan as Real Estate MD
Blackstone on Monday announced the appointment of Yan Yan as a Managing Director in its real estate team in Asia.
Yan joins Blackstone from SOHO China, where she played a pivotal role as President, CFO and COO. She previously held various management roles in Henderson (China) Investment and the Sheraton Hotels, Blackstone said in a statement.
“Yan Yan is an industry leader with an outstanding track record and tremendous knowledge of real estate markets across the region,” said Tim Wang, Senior Managing Director in Blackstone’s Real Estate Group and Head of Real Estate China.
She holds a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Tianjin University.
