Indonesia&#8217;s online construction professionals&#8217; directory <a href="http://www.arsitag.com/">Arsitag </a>has secured seed funding from <a href="http://www.east.vc/">East Ventures</a>. The financial terms of the round were undisclosed.
Jakarta-based Arsitag was founded by three ex-San Francisco Bay Area residents, Edward Harjanto, Steven Gomedi, and Michael Gani. Prior to this funding round, Arsitag was a bootstrapped company, according to a statement from the firm.
In 2016, <a href="http://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=east+ventures">East Ventures </a>has led seed rounds in two Singapore-based fintech startups Airfrov and Algomerchant and Indonesia-based hospital management startup Medico.
“Building construction is a huge industry in Indonesia. We build 400,000 house units on yearly basis, and Jakarta today accounts for nearly 1,000 towers. Clearly, it is another huge category that needs to be disrupted,” says Willson Cuaca, managing partner of East Ventures, on the Arsitag investment.
Arsitag’s approach to solve problems of discovering construction professionals will simplify and demystify the intimidating task of home-building. The platform will be a helpful tool for Indonesia’s 15,000 architects and 3,000 interior designers, he added.
In Indonesia, typically only 15 per cent of dwelling units are designed by architects while majority of owners prefer contractors.
Arsitag CTO Michael Gani said, the seed round will accelerate Arsitag’s mission to help land-owners discover the right professionals to design and build their dream property.
“The construction industry is extremely traditional, unorganized and lacks transparency. It’s hard to imagine that in this digital age, referral is still the most common, if not the only way to find construction professionals,” he said, adding Arsitag hopes to change this.
“Our smart search allows users to narrow down their search through practical filters such as location, style, and more,” he continued.
Going forward, Steven Gomedi, COO said, Arsitag will introduce data analytics to help professionals streamline their sales and marketing efforts.
Arsitag CEO Edward Hardjanto, says, there is still a gap in understanding the importance of good architecture or design. &#8220;With land prices doubling or even tripling in some areas, the need to efficiently plan space becomes apparent.&#8221;
