<a style="color: #000080;" href="http://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=Catcha+Group" target="_blank">Catcha Group</a>’s online TV streaming service <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=iflix+" target="_blank">iflix </a>is expanding to a fifth market, beyond Southeast Asian region, to Pakistan.
It was reported that the company has appointed a general manager, Farees Shah, to head the operation, <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://www.mumbrella.asia/2016/03/iflix-prepares-for-pakistan-launch-with-hire-of-farees-shah-from-rocket-internet/" target="_blank">mUmbrella reported</a>.
Shah was previously associated with Rocket Internet, where he founded the online retail giant’s Pakistan business, <a style="color: #000080;" href="https://www.daraz.pk/" target="_blank">Daraz.pk</a> in 2012.
Shah had raised two rounds of funding worth more than $60 million during his time at Daraz, and grew the business from scratch to a monthly turnover of $1 million in three years.
Before he dabbled in e-commerce, Shah worked for Karachi Electric Supply Company, Pakistan Mercantile Exchange Limited and had a three month stint in London with Deutsche Bank.
Kuala Lumpur-based iflix is already available in Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines and Indonesia.
The Indonesian arm is led by former Emtek Group executive Cam Walker, who was appointed earlier this month.
An executive from iflix said the company cannot comment on the development at the moment.
&#8220;Regarding Pakistan, we can’t comment on launch plans at this time, however I can confirm that we have identified it as a key market for expansion. Pakistan has nearly 40 million smartphone users and well over 40 million Internet users. This coupled with the rapid growth and adoption of online content and service in the country, make it an exemplary market for iflix,&#8221; the person told DEALSTREETASIA.
<a style="color: #000080;" href="http://www.straitstimes.com/tech/asias-iflix-targets-mobile-video-fans" target="_blank">Straits Times previously reported</a>, quoting Catcha founder Patrick Grove, that iflix’s strategy is to target countries with large populations and that it proposed to launch in Costa Rica, Kenya, Myanmar, Pakistan and several other developing countries this year.
It has more than two million subscribers in Malaysia and the Philippines, currently.
Iflix service is offered with monthly subscription prices between $2 and $3, which the company believes is affordable in the markets it has entered.
