<article>Swiss bank <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=UBS">UBS</a> has named <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=Peter+Stephens">Peter Stephens</a>, the former Hong Kong-based chief technology officer for APAC, as the new head of blockchain.</article>

Swiss bank <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=UBS">UBS</a> has named <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=Peter+Stephens">Peter Stephens</a>, the former Hong Kong-based chief technology officer for APAC, as the new head of blockchain.
He will replace <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=Alex+Batlin">Alex Batlin</a>, who was the first head of UBS blockchain and departed UBS last week. It is reportedly that Batlin will join BNY Mellon and continue his blockchain projects there.
Stephens will move to London and start the new position on November 1. He will report to UBS Head of Innovation Veronica Lange. He will start the new position from November 1 onward.
In a memo to staff, Lange said: “Peter has been instrumental in driving blockchain and fintech initiatives out of Hong Kong and is well-versed in UBS blockchain strategy and development work.
&#8220;This appointment will ensure consistency of our blockchain strategy and a smooth transition in the approach of the next phase of our blockchain based business development activity.”
Stephens whose focus is on banking operations technology has been working with UBS since 2003 and based in Hong Kong since 2008.
Prior to joining UBS, he was a consultant for the Financial Services consulting practices at IBM and PwC.
