Early-stage venture fund <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://dealstreetasia.com/tag/blume-ventures" target="_blank">Blume Ventures</a> has formed a strategic alliance with <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://dealstreetasia.com/tag/draper-venture-network" target="_blank">Draper Venture Network</a>, an alliance of independent VC firms that connects entrepreneurs and investors globally.
The member firms of the alliance typically invest post-seed or Series A &amp; B funds, collaborate on investment insights, deal syndication and share a portfolio services team located in Silicon Valley.
Blume will be the India partner for Draper Venture, which is headed by US-based prolific investor Tim Draper who launched venture capital operations in the country through DFJ India in 2007, but later exited.
According to a company statement, the alliance will provide Blume’s portfolio companies access to a global network of corporate and ecosystem relationships. On the other hand, through the partnership with Blume will Draper’s early-stage fund Draper Associates and other DVN member funds can tap into the Indian technology sector.
Draper Network has about $1.6 billion in collective assets across four continents. DVN members have funded over 600 companies and exited over 200, including <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://dealstreetasia.com/tag/skype" target="_blank">Skype</a>,<a style="color: #000080;" href="http://dealstreetasia.com/tag/baidu" target="_blank"> Baidu</a>, Twitch, and most recently Cruise Automation.
Draper Venture Network already has a presence in Asia through its partnership with venture funds such as Draper Athena in South Korea, Draper Nexus Ventures in Japan and Singapore-based Wavemaker Partners. The Network also has operations in Americas, Europe and Middle-East.
“With all the positive changes we see happening in India, we have decided to re-enter, this time via a partnership with the dynamic duo of Sanjay (Nath) and Karthik (Reddy) at Blume Ventures,” said Tim Draper in the statement.
“They have a strong footing in the local ecosystem and are making waves with some great portfolio companies. Now with the support and reach of the Draper Venture Network, we can accelerate the growth of their investments and ensure these companies have presence in the Silicon Valley and globally,” he added.
Like the other members of the network, Blume Ventures will continue to operate independently and raise its own capital and manage its own investment decisions.
“The DVN alliance will help us strengthen our global footprint for our growing portfolio and expand our presence in the Valley. Our portfolio can now easily connect with global founders for cross-sharing of ideas, best practices, and networks”, says Sanjay Nath, Managing Partner, Blume Ventures.
