US-based cab-hailing firm <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://dealstreetasia.com/tag/lyft" target="_blank">Lyft</a> has acqui-hired Pune-based technology startup <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://dealstreetasia.com/tag/finitepaths" target="_blank">FinitePaths</a> for an undisclosed amount.
Consequently, the Indian firm will shut down its app Trail Answers, which helped get answers to user questions using social, local and contextual signals, in the next two weeks.
&#8220;All good things come to an end and we need to make some difficult decisions here. We have stopped signing up new users for the app and will be shutting down the app for existing users over the next two weeks,&#8221; according to a statement on the company&#8217;s website.
Subsequently, the co-founders of the company Vinay Kakade and Balaji Raghavan will join the the Lyft team. Raghavan spent over a decade in Google before leaving as engineering director in 2015 to float FinitePaths along with Kakade, who was formerly the head of engineering at Amazon’s CloudSearch in India.
“We are very excited to have Balaji and Vinay join our team. They have extensive experience building large scale infrastructure and services. We see this experience as playing a critical role in helping us tackle some of the unique challenges we have at Lyft, as well as helping grow the Lyftcommunity,” Luc Vincent, VP of Engineering at Lyft, said.
&#8220;Lyft has a grand vision to see the world where the transportation and technology brings people together, not apart. Everyone we met at Lyft was super sharp and intelligent yet so humble. The technical challenges are exciting and we believe we can make the right contributions based on our prior experience and what we have built at FinitePaths,&#8221; the company said in its statement.
<a style="color: #000080;" href="http://dealstreetasia.com/tag/uber" target="_blank">Uber</a> rival Lyft has periodically taken the  acquisition route to enhance its offerings. Similar to the FinitePaths deal, in 2015, Lyft had acqui-hired the team behind Leo, a disappearing messaging app for one-on-one or group conversations. Prior to that, in 2014, it acquired car-pooling platform Hitch and transit startup Rover.
It was recently reported that Lyft was looking to raise a $500 million funding round to take on larger taxi hailing giant Uber.
