Growth markets investor <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://www.act.is/" target="_blank">Actis</a> plans to raise $2 billion for its latest energy fund, according to several media reports.
Actis will use the fund to invest in electricity generation and distribution businesses in Latin America, Africa and Asia, the <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://www.efinancialnews.com/" target="_blank">Financial News</a> reported.
The fund will be much more larger than the previous Actis Energy III, which exceeded its $750 million target on $1.15 billion in 2013.
Actis currently manages $6.3 billion funds, investing in growing markets across Africa, Asia and Latin America.
According to a filing, Actis received commitments to the vehicle from at least two large institutional investors.
Among those who committed capital to the fund were Danish pension fund Industriens Pensionsforsikring, and the Employees Retirement System of Texas, a public pension fund with $21 billion of assets.
Only last September, Actis beefed up its energy team, appointing Barry Lynch as a director and head of energy operations.
Lynch came from the boards of two of Actis’s portfolio companies ? Lekela Power, and Aelia Energia.
Other new hires include Javier Areitio and Lisa Pinsley as directors.
Javier was previously the managing director and head of origination for Europe and Latin America at TerraForm Power and TerraForm Global.
Pinsley was a former director at American Capital Energy and Infrastructure.
