French SME sector focused <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://www.dealstreetasia.com/stories/private-equity-firms-look-to-new-divestment-options-to-make-up-for-lack-of-exits-65865/" target="_blank">private equity firm</a> Idinvest Partners has opened a new Shanghai office in a bid to support the internationalisation of its portfolio companies or rather expansion in the Asian markets.
In an announcement last week, Paris-based Idinvest said that the office will be led by Solomon Moos, Corporate Development Asia, who joined Idinvest in July 2016 from <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://www.dealstreetasia.com/stories/people-digest-allianz-real-estate-appoints-head-apac-yellow-brick-roads-wealth-division-gm-52635/" target="_blank">Allianz </a>Global Investors. Solomon will be supported by three Chinese partners.
&#8220;This marks the most recent milestone in Idinvest&#8217;s strategic international development and ability to offer in-country support to portfolio companies with hypergrowth ambitions, coming shortly after the opening of a Frankfurt office earlier this month,&#8221; said the European investor in its statement.
Idinvest&#8217;s Shanghai presence will facilitate the firm&#8217;s ability to help entrepreneurs find the right partners, build stronger ties and generate synergies with industrial strategic or financial partners across Asia, along the <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://www.dealstreetasia.com/stories/amid-beijings-silk-road-splurge-chinese-firms-eye-pakistan-64115/" target="_blank">One Belt, One Road</a> policy, it said.
This follows the establishment of Idinvest&#8217;s CHANCE programme in 2015, an investment platform to finance technology gap in Sino-European relations, facilitating the investment of Chinese capital into select European sectors and helping to provide European SMEs access to Chinese markets.
&#8220;While the US used to be the go-to country for innovative SMEs, more and more companies are now looking eastward for development and China, as the second largest economy in the world, plays a central part,&#8221; said Christophe Baviere, CEO of Idinvest.
He added that the firm looks at the Asian region as a hub for development, where some of its existing portfolio companies already have a footprint&#8212; Organica, Actility, Forsee, Sigfox, Vulcain.
