Technology giant <a style="color: #000080" href="http://m.ibm.com/us/en/">IBM</a> has tied up with Philippine electronics company <a style="color: #000080" href="http://www.ionicsgroup.com">Ionics Inc</a> to create the IBM IoT (Internet-of-Things) Platform.
The Philippine listed firm disclosed that one of its units Ionics EMS Inc, a local electronics manufacturing services provider, is working with IBM as &#8220;a key design partner&#8221; to launch the IBM IoT Platform. The latter is meant to enable organizations across industries to improve engagement with clients, accelerate technology innovation and enhance business operations.
The partnership targets to provide organizations with enterprise-grade tools for better realizing the value of their IoT devices.
IoT is predicted to become common in a few years time, turning a wide variety of common devices like home appliances into smart devices as they can all be connected and controlled online.

Both companies aim to achieve their goals by combining Ionics&#8217; expertise in hardware specifications and IBM&#8217;s software that enables better asset performance management, operational risk management, predictive maintenance and managed continuous engineering.
According to Ionics, the collaboration complements the IBM services portfolio as Ionics focuses on original design manufacturing, ensuring hardware is specifically configured to work with the IBM IoT platform.
&#8220;We&#8217;re excited to partner with IBM because we believe that an effective IoT solution should be built from the ground up — from chipset through services — is by far the best choice,&#8221; said Ionics vice president Earl Qua.

&#8220;Working with IBM, we have tapped into our respective company&#8217;s expertise to create a platform that is built and customized for the unique nature in which companies are utilizing IoT,&#8221; Qua added.
As a one-stop shop electronics manufacturing services provider and contract manufacturer, Ionics through its different units, does telecommunication, automotive, computer, and medical products.
Besides Ionics EMS, Ionics&#8217; other subsidiaries are Ionics Properties, Ionics Circuits Limited, and Iomni Precision Inc.
Ionics&#8217; last trading price increased 13.40 per cent or P0.065 to close at P0.55.
