Singapore-based early-medical technology startup <a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=NDR%20Medical Technology">NDR Medical Technology</a> (NDR) has raised an undisclosed amount from <a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=SGInnovate">SGInnovate</a>, a government-linked Singapore corporation that nurtures deep tech startups, according to a statement.
SGInnovate confirmed that it has completed its investment in NDR, a medtech firm that combines artificial intelligence, robotics, and computer vision for surgical procedures.
NDR has developed a proprietary smart robotic guiding system known as Automated Needle Targeting (ANT). The system uses AI and image processing to help surgeons visualise the 3D location of the target lesion in the patient’s body.
“AI robotics is disruptive and will empower surgeons to perform extraordinarily,” said Alan Goh, co-founder and CEO of NDR.
NDR is preparing for a pilot clinical trial and for the commercial application of its system in the first quarter of 2020.
“A system that brings AI and a high-precision surgical tool together is a powerful combination. Doctors have told us this system can raise the efficacy of surgical procedures to improve the clinical outcomes and lives of patients,” said Steve Leonard, Founding CEO of SGInnovate.
A spokesperson for SGInnovate told DEALSTREETASIA that the investment in NDR could not be revealed due to confidentiality reasons.
“This investment marks a significant milestone for Singapore’s medtech scene as NDR is the first early-stage medtech company to receive SGInnovate’s direct investment to develop and commercialize an AI-powered smart robotic guiding system that will help surgeons visualize and target lesions in patients’ bodies,” SGInnovate said.
Last year, SGInnovate said it will further intensify its focus on the deep technology ecosystem in Singapore.
SGInnovate’s roots stem from its origins as Infocomm Investments (IIPL) prior to its rebranding and restructuring.
In the new incarnation, its team concentrates on transformational technologies that have horizontal applications across many industries.
It invests from $100,000 at the pre-seed stage; co-invests $100,000 to $1 million in seed investments; and backs investments of $1 million or more at the Series A stage.
