<p><span style="color: #000080;"><a style="color: #000080;" href="http://dealstreetasia.com/tag/clsa-capital-partners" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><strong>CLSA Capital Partners</strong></a></span>, the alternative asset management arm of CLSA, has closed <span style="color: #000080;"><strong><a style="color: #000080;" href="http://www.clsacapital.com/fund-sunrise-portfolio.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Sunrise Capital’s</a></strong></span> third fund, Sunrise Capital III, at a hard cap of $400 million.</p>
<p>According to a media release, Sunrise III was significantly oversubscribed. This resulted in an effective single close after less than seven months of fundraising. New investors make up 75 per cent of the capital raised from a LP base originating from North America, Japan, Europe, the Middle East and Asia (ex-Japan).</p>
<p>“We are very pleased with the overwhelming interest in Sunrise Capital from many prominent investors – the demand for Sunrise III far exceeded the firm’s hard cap,” said Megumi Kiyozuka, Managing Director at Sunrise Capital.</p>
<p>“We believe that $400 million is the right size for us, given our value-added approach to control investing in Japan’s lower mid-market.&#8221;</p>
<p>Sunrise Capital is a Japan-dedicated private equity (PE) strategy, capitalising on opportunities in the mid-cap buyout sector. It is an activist investor and enjoys support with overseas expansion through CLSA’s global network. Sunrise Capital has completed investments in 10 companies to date. On a global basis, CLSA Capital Partners currently has over $3.5 billion under management.</p>
<p>The last transaction involving Sunrise Capital was the January 2017 merger of its portfolio firm in Sunrise Capital II, Asamiya Co., Ltd., a low-cost beverage manufacturer headquartered in Osaka, with Tokyo-based Meiwa Co., a beverage wholesaler.</p>
<p>This merger saw the firms merge to establish the LifeDrink Company (LDC), which focuses on the sales and promotion of beverages and other food-related products.</p>

<p>Sunrise III received strong support from Sunrise Capital’s existing investors in addition to commitments from a diverse group of new investors from across the globe that includes endowments, foundations, pension funds, financial institutions, fund-of-funds and family offices.</p>
