Malaysia&#8217;s telematics startup Pixelated Sdn Bhd, now known as KATSANA, has bagged a $893,356 funding from Axiata Digital Innovation Fund, part of local telecom firm <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://www.dealstreetasia.com/stories/axiata-groups-sri-lankan-telecom-arm-to-enter-bpo-business-59031/" target="_blank">Axiata.</a>
The fund will help to support the development and commercialisation of the company&#8217;s current telematics business and its new product, KATSANA InsightTM, a solution for motor insurance companies with driver behavioral analytics.
&#8220;In addition, the financial infusion will also be used to help KATSANA focus on scaling up its <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://www.dealstreetasia.com/stories/31462-31462/" target="_blank">product development</a> team, going forward,&#8221; Katsana said in a statement on Monday.
KATSANA Insight is currently available for motor insurance companies and can aid them in drastically reducing claims loss and gather much needed data in preparation for detariffication of motor insurance in the country. It also lowers barriers of entry for motor insurers by introducing packages based on dual mode smartphone telematics and a dedicated beacon on insured vehicles.
Moreover, in order to analyse data, insurers can get them online when they log-on to KATSANA Insight dashboard via a web-browser and through its APIs.
“This (funding) has come at a pivotal time when KATSANA is gearing up towards the rolling-out of our KATSANA Insight solution for the insurance industry,” said KATSANA Managing Director and co-founder Syed Ahmad Fuqaha Syed Agil.
Founded in 2014 KATSANA, the development of the telematics offering was driven by the company&#8217;s aim to become a catalyst for safer roads in Malaysia through KATSANA’s engagement and gamification engine, he added.
KATSANA is also looking at expanding to markets within the ASEAN region. The company has also recived funding from Skim Permulaan Usahawan Bumiputera (SUPERB) from TERAJU, a strategic unit under the Prime Minister’s Department.
Axiata Digital Innovation Fund, which is managed by Intres Capital, is a technology venture fund formed by Axiata Bhd in collaboration with Malaysia Venture Capital Management Bhd.
“We were impressed with team at KATSANA and how they have evolved from the vehicle security business into an IoT and big data driven services for the emerging Fintech and InsuranceTech industries,” said partner of Intres Capital, fund manager of Axiata Digital Innovation Fund Amin Shafie.
