A venue-based social discovery application designed for <a style="color: #000080;" href="https://www.apple.com" target="_blank">Apple Watch</a> and iPhone has been launched by the Singapore-based <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://www.watchme88.com" target="_blank">WatchMe88</a>.
The app discovers men and women within a user’s chosen distance using, using Apple wearables like the iPhone &amp; Apple Watch. Available as a free download, it connects interested individuals within the same venue and facilitates their introduction. Based on their present location, users can browse who is nearby and approach with the ‘wink’ feature to express interest to interact.
“Unlike existing profile-based online dating apps, WatchMe88 endorses appropriately knowing a user by meeting him in reality and have human experience which are not based on assumptions. I believe technology should empower us to connect with people and not segregate and isolate us from the society” said <a style="color: #000080;" href="https://sg.linkedin.com/pub/yoav-elgrichi/0/390/410" target="_blank">Yoav Elgrichi</a>, co-founder of WatchMe88.
This is one of the newer applications available on the Apple Watch, with daters able to approach and be approachable adopting the app’s ‘Glow’ feature as a direct means of communication, without exchanging messages or updating their statuses.
It is estimated Apple received almost one million Apple Watch pre-orders in the US during the initial six hours of the pre-order period on April 10, 2015, before they were subsequently sold out, according to a <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://qz.com/381791/apple-watch-pre-orders-were-1-million-in-the-us-on-its-first-day-a-shopping-data-firm-estimates/" target="_blank">Quartz report</a>.
Upon the Apple Watch&#8217;s unveiling in Q4 2014, UBS IT hardware analyst <a style="color: #000080;" href="https://www.linkedin.com/pub/steve-milunovich/6/112/208" target="_blank">Steven Milunovich</a> observed: “The detail that went into the design, including the watch bands, is impressive and not fully appreciated yet&#8221;.
In his estimate, between 24 million to 40 million units will be sold in 2015.
