NSQ Capital invests in Vietnamese eyecare group

Singapore-based healthcare investor NSQ Capital has invested in Vietnam’s Anh Sang International Eye Group, backing the ophthalmology provider’s expansion into a nationwide platform as private capital continues to target specialised healthcare services in the region.

Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Anh Sang operates four specialist eye hospitals under the Light Eye Hospital brand and has treated more than 1.5 million patients since its founding in 2009 by Professor Ton Thi Kim Thanh, according to a joint announcement. Its services include cataract and refractive surgery, myopia management, retinal and glaucoma care, pediatric ophthalmology and advanced diagnostics.

The deal will see NSQ Capital partner with the founding shareholders on an expansion strategy that includes opening new facilities, pursuing acquisitions and investing in medical technology, physician development, digitalisation and governance.

The founders will retain a significant ownership stake and continue to be involved in managing the business, the companies said.

The investment is the latest example of private equity firms seeking to build scaled healthcare platforms in Southeast Asia by partnering with established specialist providers.

For Anh Sang, the partnership is intended to accelerate a transition from a four-hospital network into a broader national platform while maintaining the clinical culture established by its founder.

The group’s stated strategy is to expand access to specialised eye care across Vietnam, with growth coming from both new facilities and acquisitions.

Ophthalmology has attracted growing interest from healthcare investors globally as aging populations, rising healthcare spending and demand for elective procedures support specialist providers. In emerging markets, investors have also sought opportunities to consolidate fragmented private healthcare markets and create platforms that can benefit from scale.

NSQ said its investment will focus on preserving Anh Sang’s clinical standards, strengthening its organisational capabilities, and expanding its geographic reach.

“Together, we are building not only a larger organisation, but a stronger institution that will continue serving patients and communities across Vietnam for many generations,” Anh Sang CEO Dr. Vũ Thị Thanh said.
