From cars to robots: Fireside chat with Chinese unicorn ZYT's chief

China’s AI story is moving beyond foundation models and into the physical world.

Zhuoyu Technology (ZYT) is at the forefront of that shift. Born inside drone maker DJI’s automotive unit before becoming independent, the Shenzhen autonomous-driving company is taking its technology from Chinese passenger cars into trucks, logistics and overseas markets, including through a new collaboration with Volkswagen.

At the centre of its push is a “mobility foundation model” trained not only on cars, but also on data from drones, robots and other moving systems. CEO Shaojie Shen says it already drives better than he does on Shenzhen’s streets.

At the DealStreetAsia PE-VC Summit 2026 in Singapore, Shen will join a fireside chat at the Growth, Technology & Private Markets Forum on Day 2 (Sept. 24) to explore how quickly autonomous-driving AI is advancing, whether Chinese technology can scale globally, what it takes to turn AI breakthroughs into mass-market businesses, and where autonomous driving intersects with physical and embodied AI.

With ZYT also exploring a potential Hong Kong listing, the conversation poses a timely question for private-market investors: Is this what the next phase of China’s AI commercialisation looks like?
