Regency Hospital Ltd, a tertiary healthcare provider in Uttar Pradesh, on Tuesday announced that it has raised nearly $11.4 million (Rs 110 crore) from BlackSoil Capital to fund its expansion and investments in new healthcare infrastructure.

Incorporated in 1987, Regency runs hospitals and healthcare facilities across Kanpur, Lucknow and Gorakhpur, offering multi- and super-specialty care in oncology, nephrology, gastroenterology, cardiology and critical care, among other specialties.

According to the company, the fundraising comes as demand for specialised healthcare continues to rise beyond India’s major metropolitan centres.

“Regency has remained focused on expanding access to quality tertiary and super-specialty healthcare across Uttar Pradesh. The Rs 110 crore financing from BlackSoil will support our investments in new healthcare infrastructure and enable us to build further capacity in markets where the demand for specialised care continues to grow,” said Abhishek Kapoor, CEO, Regency Hospital Limited.

Established in 2016, BlackSoil is an alternative credit platform comprising an RBI-registered systemically important NBFC and a SEBI-registered AIF. The firm manages $275 million in assets and serves MSMEs, enterprises and retail businesses across India and Southeast Asia.

BlackSoil provides alternative credit solutions to fast-growing and underserved new-economy businesses across their short- and long-term capital requirements. Its portfolio includes 11 unicorns and 14 publicly listed companies.

For BlackSoil, the transaction underscores its growing focus on the healthcare sector and its strategy of financing established businesses with clear expansion plans. The lender has built exposure across hospitals, diagnostics and medical equipment distribution and sees further financing opportunities across hospitals, diagnostics, specialty healthcare operators and medical equipment businesses.
“Regency is an established regional healthcare operator with a strong operating track record and a clear pipeline for adding capacity. Its presence across tier-2 markets and depth in specialised care make it a good fit for our healthcare credit strategy. We see meaningful opportunities to finance established healthcare businesses as they invest in new capacity and infrastructure,” said Ankur Bansal, MD, BlackSoil.
