Brookfield has agreed to sell an indirect minority interest in Australian alternative asset manager La Trobe Financial to Canadian pension fund OMERS, as the asset manager brings in another institutional investor.

Brookfield will retain majority ownership of the Australian alternative asset manager, with the deal expected to close in Q1 2027.

The investment will be made through a Brookfield private equity investment vehicle, with Brookfield retaining majority ownership of La Trobe Financial, according to a statement on Tuesday (Oct. 27).

The transaction follows a minority stake investment in La Trobe Financial by Asia-focused private equity manager Axight earlier this year.

Since acquiring La Trobe Financial in 2022, Brookfield has grown the business’s assets under management to A$27 billion, up from A$22 billion at the end of 2025, the statement said.

La Trobe Financial has expanded its product offering, including launching a US private credit product and a listed investment trust on the Australian Securities Exchange. It has also invested in systems to deepen investor engagement, improve client service and enhance operating efficiencies.

“Since our acquisition in 2022, La Trobe Financial has delivered record growth, supported by its strong origination capabilities, diversified funding model and continued demand for specialist credit solutions,” said Shiv Gupta, Brookfield Private Equity head of Australia.

The investment reflects OMERS’ push to expand its presence in Australia, according to Alexander Fraser, executive vice president and global head of private equity at OMERS.

The transaction is subject to customary regulatory approvals and is expected to close in the first quarter of 2027.
