<a style="color: #000080;" href="http://www.mindmaze.ch/">MindMaze</a>, a Swiss company that offers virtual reality systems to help stroke victims, has raised commitments of $100 million in a new round led by the <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://www.hindujagroup.com/">Hinduja Group</a>.
The latest funding round values the company at over $1 billion, the company said in a release.
The neuro-technology company plans to use the funds to build on its portfolio and launch medical-grade neural virtual reality platforms.
MindMaze is best known for its virtual reality technology that combines a motion-sensing camera with electrode-studded headgear to help stroke victims or other patients retrain their minds and bodies.
The system combines self-teaching artificial intelligence with computer vision in a way that can be customized to the patient’s needs and provide real-time multisensory feedback on the patient’s progress.
The first-of-its-kind multisensory technology has already been commercialized for stroke and brain-injury survivors and its current regulatory approvals enable the company to accelerate placement of devices in Europe and Asia, the release said.
&#8220;MindMaze&#8217;s next-generation human-machine interface is already proving itself in healthcare, games, and its potential for applications in transportation, defense and various types of media are now ready to be truly explored,&#8221; said the spokesperson of Hinduja Group. &#8220;We are excited to help MindMaze build on its achievements, while seeing that both current and future partners have their collective visions realized.&#8221;
Within the healthcare space, the platform will be tested in key US centres for both motor and cognitive recovery applications in 2016, MindMaze s said.
&#8220;This funding round is the first endorsement of the investment potential for the MindMaze platform and supports our vision to build the Human Interface,&#8221; said MindMaze Founder and CEO, Tej Tadi.
