Indonesia&#8217;s motorcycle ride-hailing app leader <a href="http://www.go-jek.com/">Go-Jek </a>is breaking fresh ground with plans to launch a new line of taxi apps service called Go-Car in partnership with conventional taxi operators in Jakarta.
The proposed move would heat up competition in Indonesia&#8217;s ride-hailing transport apps space as it will pit Go-Jek against global operators <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=Uber">Uber</a> and Grab (earlier GrabTaxi)
According to Go-Jek statement to DEALSTREETASIA, the company seeks to set up the new line of business to address the growing social demand for technology-based transport solutions.
While declining to divulge plans on how the new service would shape up, the statement said, &#8220;Go-Jek will continue to develop services and technology solutions that simplify lives.&#8221;

Meanwhile, the head of <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://www.dishub.jakarta.go.id/">Jakarta Transportation Agency</a>, Andri Yansyah, after a meeting with Go-Jek founder and CEO Nadiem Makarim, said, Go-Car would use a similar system as currently used by another ride-hailing application such as GrabTaxi. 
Go-Jek would not be required to form another legal entity or apply for a permit to enter into this business. This is because the 34 taxi operators in Jakarta, with whom Go-Jek seeks to collaborate, already own permits.
&#8220;They only need to talk it over with the taxi companies or the Organization of Land Transportation Owners. We will study the results and sign the deal when it&#8217;s all clear and done,&#8221; he said.
Go-Jek&#8217;s proposal to enter into the tech-enabled taxi space comes soon after the massive transport protests that gripped Jakarta streets earlier this month. Protesters, mostly conventional taxi operators rallied against ride-hailing apps Uber and Grab claiming that they were facing declining incomes. 
US-based Uber Inc. and Malaysia’s <a style="color: #000080;" href="https://www.grab.com/id/en/car/">GrabCar</a> have, for now, registered as legal cooperatives to stay operational in Indonesia after a rather long struggle to get over regulatory hurdles and policy flip-flop in southeast Asia&#8217;s largest economy.
