Alpha Startups Indonesia, unit of Malaysia’s 1337 Ventures, a Southeast Asian accelerator and early-stage investor, has announced selection of three startups, which will undergo its three-month accelerator program.
This marks Malaysia-headquartered 1337 Ventures’ official entry into its fourth Southeast Asian market, in Indonesia. The firm has invested pre-seed money in 23 startups in Malaysia and has expanded its pre-seed portfolio to three other startups in the Philippines.
The program is managed by 1337 Ventures in Jakarta and will help the three startups that have received funding and services worth $25,000 each- “hit the ground running and be “seed-ready within the duration.
The three startups include Boonda–a marketplace for moms to share skills & earn money–founded by Reizah Avrianty, Shareciety–a marketplace for renting by Erik Hormein and Student Jobs Indonesia–a job seeking platform for new graduates–by founder Annisa Purbandari Fauzia

Alpha Startups’ 5-day idea validation programme had over 200 applications, from where 25 teams were selected for the boot-camp. Throughout teams were assessed on their performance which led to the top 11 ideas being selected for the demo day at Sequis Centre in Jakarta. The top three teams were selected as the demo day winners.
Demo day saw – Natali Ardianto from Tiket.com, Erik Ten from Zona Wifi, Kevin Darmawan from Coffee Ventures, Windy Natriavi from Go-jek, Supreet Sethi from Tokopedia, Heriyadi Janwar from Bhinneka and previously Microsoft Indonesia and finally Ratih Wulandari that worked on marketing/growth at companies like Zalora, Acommerce and Homejoy – addressing the participants.

We hope that all participants gained some valuable insights through the structured course and mentorship and look forward to the next round of applicants this summer”,said Adrian Li, managing partner Convergence Ventures.
A second batch will run in August this year and participants can start applying today. As 1337 Ventures is a AWS portfolio partner, the top teams are extended AWS credits, premium AWS business support along with a slew of other 1337’s partner support.

Leading graduates from Alpha Startups will be hand-picked for pre-seed investments by 1337 Ventures. The VC firm has already invested pre-seed in 23 startups in Malaysia, three startups in the Philippines and recently another three in Indonesia.
The programme has already successfully coached 196 startups from previous camps held in Malaysia, Singapore and the Philippines, of which 23 have received follow-on financing from angel investors, accelerators, venture capital firms and government funds.
Leading early-stage technology investor in China, Gobi Partners has last year aggressively expanded into Southeast Asia, maintaining a focus in IT and digital media companies with offices in Malaysia and Singapore. While, Chinese internet service provider, Baidu, is looking to further strengthen its presence in Southeast Asia via Alpha Startups Indonesia.
