Deepak Shahdadpuri-led investment firm <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://dealstreetasia.com/tag/DSG-Consumer">DSG Consumer Partners</a> has made the first close of its second fund at $35 million, with 40 per cent participation from its existing investors.
The early-stage investment fund, which exhausted its first fund of around $14 million in the end of December, started raising funds for its second round from the first week of January, which finally closed last week, Shahdadpuri told DEALSTREETASIA.
DSG Consumer has targeted to raise around $40 million for this latest fund, with its hard cap at $50 million. The process is on for raising the remaining amount, he said.
The company brought in Belgium-based investment holding company Verlinvest as a Limited Partner in its second fund – DSGCP II. So, far around 60 per cent of the total corpus raised has come in from new investors including <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://dealstreetasia.com/tag/everstone-capital">Everstone Capital</a>, whose co-founder Samir Sain was an investor in his personal capacity in DSG Consumers&#8217; first fund.
Through its first fund, DSG Consumer had invested in around 20 startups, and plans to replicate that success in the second round by following the same route of investing in consumer-focussed non-tech companies.
It was an early investor online hotel aggregator <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://dealstreetasia.com/tag/oyo-rooms">OYO Rooms</a>, mobile point-of-sale payment services provider MSwipe Technologies, tea retail chain Chai Point and specialty food ingredients manufacturer Veeba Foods.
DSG has already started deploying its second fund. In February, it made its maiden investment for its second fund in juice brand<a style="color: #000080;" href="http://dealstreetasia.com/tag/raw-pressery"> Raw Pressery</a> by participating in $4.5 million funding round, along with Sequoia Capital and Saama Capital.
Shahdadpuri said, four-five more deals were in the pipeline of which a couple of them could close as early as May.
