<a style="color: #000080;" href="http://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=WI+Harper+Group" target="_blank">WI Harper Group</a>, a early stage venture capital firm based in the US and Taiwan, has closed its eighth fund at $175 million.
WIH Fund VIII LP has several international institutional, family office, and corporate strategic investors or limited partners as they are referred to in the sector, the company said in a statement.
&#8220;We are extremely pleased to announce the successful closing of Fund VIII which now brings our total AUM to US$1 billion. This is a significant milestone in our firm&#8217;s long and successful history,&#8221; said Peter Liu, WI Harper Group&#8217;s founder and chairman.
The firm was founded 25 years ago to bridge technology innovation in the US and market opportunities in Asia. It has three offices in San Francisco, Taipei, and Beijing.
With Fund VIII, WI Harper Group will continue to focus their investment sectors such as mobile-first technologies, virtual and augmented reality, industrial and consumer robotics, expansion of cloud-enabled services, big data analytics, and the Internet of Things.
Within the healthcare sector, the firm is currently focused on healthcare services including both clinical and digital health, innovative medical devices and diagnostics, and therapeutic discovery including pharmaceutical development.
The firm has made about 300 investments across the US and China and has had 80 exits.
Investments in 2016 include a $1.88 follow-on round in <a style="color: #000080;" href="https://www.cbinsights.com/c-d0999cebc8f4ed4eb54d5317367e9b2f">PaperG</a>, a $12.4 million Series A round in <a style="color: #000080;" href="https://www.cbinsights.com/c-7d07e17bc73562efebd41b6ddcd5a499">Alpha Ring International</a>, and a $108 million Series C round in <a style="color: #000080;" href="https://www.cbinsights.com/c-065f7964efc4763eb1d75b48f3800bca">Getui</a> in which it participated with <a href="https://www.cbinsights.com/i-c334d1fb8d3157de3a0ebf8683060878">China Minsheng Banking Corp</a>., <a href="https://www.cbinsights.com/i-727768427b81aaf572184af5248606e3">Haitong Securities Co.</a>and <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=SAIF+Partners">SAIF Partners</a>.
Notable deals in 2015 include participation in a $200 million Series B round in <a style="color: #000080;" href="https://www.cbinsights.com/c-ec3bac915f2c609bfe0a287126098806">Panshi</a>, along with <a style="color: #000080;" href="https://www.cbinsights.com/i-d93026eca43e6ea2b93be877ea9a90f6">Fang Fund Partners</a>, <a style="color: #000080;" href="https://www.cbinsights.com/i-ae852ba7ae75fa4c5c7d186a61fcce92">JD Capital Management</a>, <a style="color: #000080;" href="https://www.cbinsights.com/i-d26beb4d23d4930fba836087f83d9bcf">NewMargin Ventures</a> and <a style="color: #000080;" href="https://www.cbinsights.com/i-83af18fa132550e1510fc43b2bccbe52">Shanghai Lefeng Investment</a>, and a $10 million Series B round in <a style="color: #000080;" href="https://www.cbinsights.com/c-5c8eef921c27272145e4164ac0b4c1c7">Cold Genesys</a>, along with <a style="color: #000080;" href="https://www.cbinsights.com/i-f466571800af70edf099b3cb72b33f5f">Ally Bridge Group</a>, <a style="color: #000080;" href="https://www.cbinsights.com/i-e30c46c74abc956f6127d428daf4cfbd">Song Hang Fang</a> and <a style="color: #000080;" href="https://www.cbinsights.com/i-11286a491257a33d16f49d1edd5a9476">Whitesun Healthcare Ventures</a>.
It&#8217;s biggest exit last year was <a style="color: #000080;" href="https://www.cbinsights.com/c-ba304f3809ed31d0ad97b5a2b5df2a39">PayEase</a>, which was sold to <a style="color: #000080;" href="https://www.cbinsights.com/i-71d8c7b32b506beb1d6469832a153576">Mozido</a> at a valuation of $750 million.
