Private equity firm <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=mandala" target="_blank">Mandala Capital</a> is raising $250 million for a new fund, which will invest in agri-businesses in India.
The Mauritius-based firm has invested $180 million so far, all in India-based companies involved in agriculture. Mandala Capital looks for opportunities to provide growth capital in public equity investments.
The new fund, the firm&#8217;s second, has made first close of $140 million, and expects to reach final close by December, according to a <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/industry/banking/finance/mandala-capital-to-raise-up-to-250-million-for-new-fund/articleshow/53498856.cms?prtpage=1" target="_blank">report</a> in the Economic Times.
Such funds have found it slightly harder to raise money this year, compared with the relative ease in 2014-15. However, LPs are still interested in putting their money in firms with a proven track record, and that has spurred fundraising by select firms.
Agricultural services and machinery sector have attracted about $2.2 billion of foreign investment since 2000, according to the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion.
