Cambodian property platform KhmerHome.com has secured an undisclosed six-digit seed funding round from Silicon Valley’s <a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/tag/500-Startups">500 Startups</a>, the startup announced in a statement.
Owned by classifieds operator Mekong Classifieds, KhmerHome.com offers a localized real estate management system and introduces a property valuation app in Cambodia. The startup claims to currently have more than 120 property agencies and 600 property agents.
“This funding by 500 Startups, which is the second in the country, validates our startup idea and will be used to upgrade our current products and mobile applications to establish a market leadership as we are looking to monetize through a subscription and transaction-based revenue model. Some of our partner agencies are currently using KhmerHome’s management system to close deals worth millions of dollars,” said KhmerHome.com co-founder and CEO Mean In.
KhmerHome.com was founded in 2017 by Mean and his three brothers Visal, Vichea and Vichet In to replace the excel sheets that many real estate agencies in Cambodia relied on, instead of a property management system, to manage their listings and clients.
Visal, Vichea, and Vichet are also co-founders of Mediaload, also known as Khmerload, a leading digital media firm in Cambodia and Myanmar with 18 million social media followers.
For KhmerHome, this round follows its pre-seed funding from Australia-based emerging markets firm Emerging Classifieds Ventures.
The real estate industry in Cambodia is thriving, thanks to increasing urbanization and growing housing demand from a young population. The annual report from the Cambodian Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction shows the government approved 3,052 construction projects worth $6.42 billion in 2017.
Last month, Indonesia’s Travelio, a platform where travellers can search through a wide range of accommodation including apartments, villas, houses, and hostels, secured a Series A financing of $4 million in a round led by Vynn Capital.
Earlier this year, 500 Startups-backed startup Qwikwire, a cross-border property solutions platform in the Philippines, raised an undisclosed amount in its latest fundraising round, led by First Asia Venture Capital and Cerebro Labs.
