Thailand: On-demand app Lalamove taps into food delivery market

Hong Kong based on-demand delivery app Lalamove is expanding operations into restaurant and food delivery across Bangkok .

Restaurants and food producers invited to use Lalamove’s 24/7 dedicated courier service will receive a stamp of approval with a ‘Lala Recommended’ graphic featured on Lalamove social media, the company said in the statement, adding that invitees are selected for their high quality cuisine, outstanding reputation and popularity amongst customers.

In return, ‘Lala Recommended’ restaurants and food companies are promoting Lalamove services via their own social media too.

Lalamove, launched in 2013, has become the largest delivery service area across 28 cities in Asia such as Hong Kong, Singapore, Bangkok, Guangzhou, Taipei and Beijing with over 65,000 drivers.

It claimed the number of registered users has grown to 660,000 and the app has been downloaded more than 500,000 times last year. Only in Thailand, the number of download is about 100,000 with over 10,000 registered drivers.

This expansion into food delivery has come after it raised $10 million in May, which was the third funding round led by MindWorks Ventures and participated by existing China’s Crystal Stream Capital, Taiwan’s AppWorks and Hong Kong’s Aria Group as well as Asia Plus Group Holdings, a new investor from Thailand.

So far, it has raised total external funding of $30 million.
