Global law firm Orrick has named Jinsong (“Jeff”) Zhang as partner in M&A and private equity practice while RHB Bank Bhd has recruited Omar Siddiq Amin Noer Rashid, Malaysia Airlines Bhd.’s CFO, to head its wholesale bank.
Law firm Orrick appoints Jinsong Zhang as partner
Global law firm Orrick has named Jinsong (“Jeff”) Zhang, who was a partner resident of King & Wood Mallesons in New York, as partner of its M&A and private equity practice.
According to the law firm’ disclosure, Jeff is the 17th partner to join Orrick’s Global M&A practice since 2016 and the third in China in the past year.
He has extensive experience representing both Chinese state-owned enterprises and private companies in cross-border public and private M&A, tender offers, privatizations, spinoffs and joint ventures.
Jeff previously served as General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer of CITIC Securities US, a broker-dealer firm registered with the SEC/FINRA, and the US arm of China’s largest full-service investment bank.
“Having deep experience in the PRC and in the U.S., Jeff brings a strong set of skills executing cross-border M&A transactions, as well as relationships with the New York banking world that will greatly benefit our clients in China,” said Ed Batts, Head of Orrick’s Global M&A and Private Equity practice.

RHB appoints new head for group wholesale banking
RHB Bank Bhd, Malaysia’s fifth-biggest lender by market value, has announced the appointment of Omar Siddiq Amin Noer Rashid, Malaysia Airlines Bhd.’s CFO to be Head of the wholesale bank.
The appointment has been approved by the Board and will take effective 1st June.
He has over 20 years experience in the finance and investment banking space having worked at sovereign wealth fund Khazanah Nasional Bhd. He has also been a managing director of corporate client solutions at RHB’s cross-town rival, CIMB Group Holdings Bhd.
With the new position, he will lead the formulation and execution of business strategy for Group Wholesale Banking which covers Corporate Banking, Investment Banking, Treasury & Global Markets, Client Coverage, Asset Management and Private Equity.
The Malaysia-based bank recently has seen several moves in its senior ranks since last year as it shifted strategy, combining its institutional equities and equity capital markets business and scrapping plans to merge with AMMB Holdings Bhd.
