Japanese mid-market private equity firm <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://dealstreetasia.com/tag/advantage-partners" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Advantage Partners</a> hit the final close of its fifth buyout fund, exceeding its aim and hitting its hard target of ¥60 billion ($532 million).
The company had reached the first close of the Advantage Partners V fund in December 2015, which it had floated earlier that year. At the first close, the fund had raised around half the amount it had set out to raise.
The firm is already investing from its fifth fund after it made its maiden investment in funeral services provider Epoch Japan in late 2015.
Founded in 1997, the funds served by Advantage Partners have invested in more than 50 businesses totalling over ¥300 billion. Funds served by the PE firm also have the ability to syndicate investments and loans to other global institutional investors and banks, enabling pursuit of large scale opportunities if they present themselves.
Prior to this fund, Advantage Partners had raised a ¥20 billion fund in 2013.
The news comes close on the heels of another Japanese private equity investor <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://dealstreetasia.com/tag/j-star" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">J-Star</a> closing its third fund at ¥32.5 billion ($290 million), exceeding its ¥30 billion ($267 million) target and reaching the aggregate fundraising hardcap.
The J-STAR No. 3 SS, LP, J-STAR No.3 GF, LP, J-STAR No.3 JC, LP, and J-STAR No.3 JF, LP., collectively known as the  “J-STAR No.3 Funds”, were launched in September 2016, and reached the final close after seven months of presence in the market.
