Hong Kong-based blockchain startup <a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=AERGO" target="_blank" rel="noopener">AERGO</a> has raised $30 million in venture funding from investors including <a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=Sequoia+Capital+China" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Sequoia Capital China</a>, <a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=GBIC" target="_blank" rel="noopener">GBIC</a> (Global Blockchain Innovative Capital) and <a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=Neo+Global+Capital" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Neo Global Capital</a>.
Other participating investors included Dekrypt Capital, FBG Capital, Arrington XRP Capital, JRR Crypto, Rockaway Capital and Block Crafters Capital.
AERGO is an open source-based platform supported and developed by Blocko, a Samsung Ventures-funded startup and one of Korea’s largest blockchain infrastructure providers.
Proceeds from the venture round will be used to develop AERGO’s platform, including releasing a new base-layer public blockchain protocol, delivering a set of IT integration software deployment blueprints, adding new research and development resources, launching new applications and expanding its network.
“Blocko’s approach to the next frontier of open-source technology, blockchain, will emulate that which I made when leading business strategies in firms like Red Hat, where innate customer know-how, which Blocko has, was the edge over competitors like IBM,” said AERGO founder and chairman Phil Zamani.
AERGO’s aim is to build a public blockchain platform that incorporates insights Blocko has gained from delivering 23 private blockchain products.
Blocko expects to use the AERGO platform to provide better offerings to its existing blockchain clients.
“Many of the newer blockchain solutions are still not suited for enterprises and existing businesses. AERGO has the greatest potential to bring blockchain technology closer to the real world as it is leveraging Blocko’s core technology which has dozens of production-level projects with millions of end-users,” said GBIC partner Sinhae Lee.
AERGO’s clients include corporations like Deutsche Telekom, HSBC, Ferrari, Sony, Ericsson, and Siemens.
Its previously raised $8.9 million in a Series B round in June this year from investors including SparkLabs Ventures, POSCO, and Premier Partners. The round included a follow-on investment from its existing investors Samsung Venture Investment, Daesung Private Equity, and Wonik Investment Partners.
