Singapore-based Musiio has secured $1 million in seed funding to build better music playlists using AI and machine learning.
According to a <a href="https://techcrunch.com/2019/02/06/musiio-raises-1m/">TechCrunch report</a>, the AI music startup was backed by Wavemaker Partners, US-based investor Exponential Creativity Ventures and undisclosed angel investors. Its last $57,000 (S$75,000) seed round was backed by Entrepreneur First, which it enrolled in under EF&#8217;s accelerator programme in Singapore.
Musiio was founded by Hazel Savage, a former streaming executive from Shazam, Universal and Pandora; and Aron Pettersson, a full stack developer specialising in machine learning and neural networks.
Musiio&#8217;s mission is to reduce or eliminate the efficiencies in music curation through AI.
One of its recent clients was Free Music Archive (FMA) a free music site under US radio station WFMU. Musiio curated playlists for them that promoted the songs that had gotten &#8220;lost&#8221; in the lineup. Their technology reportedly helped one song track double within two days from the number of plays received over eight years.
