Chinese tech giant Ant Group has completed a strategic investment in digital health platform Boohee Health for an undisclosed amount, according to a joint statement.
The 28% stake acquisition makes Ant Group the largest external shareholder in Boohee Health, as the Alipay operator moves to expand its artificial intelligence-driven healthcare business.
Boohee Health founder and chief executive Ma Haihua will remain the company’s largest overall shareholder, per the announcement Wednesday.
The investment marks Ant Group’s latest move to broaden its healthcare offerings through AQ, its AI-powered health application launched in June 2025.
The platform has more than 100 million users and processes over 10 million health-related queries daily, according to the company.
Per the announcement, Ant Group and Boohee Health will initially focus on weight management by integrating Boohee Health’s nutrition database and behavioural health management capabilities into AQ.
The companies also plan to collaborate on areas including health-related e-commerce, AI model training, and other consumer health services.
“Nearly two decades of practice have demonstrated that health management can be driven by professional knowledge, behavioural models and digital capabilities,” Ma said.
He added that Boohee Health will continue to focus on behaviour-based health management while using AQ to reach a broader user base.
Founded in 2008, Boohee Health provides digital tools for weight management, nutrition guidance, and chronic disease prevention.
The company said it has more than 200 million registered users, around 30 million annual active users, and a food database containing over 1.6 million entries.
The deal comes as Ant Group has been building its healthcare business since 2014, offering services such as doctor recommendations, hospital appointment bookings, and online consultations through its digital platforms.
The Boohee Health investment extends that strategy into preventive health and wellness management, Ant Group said.
Zhang Junjie, vice president of Ant Group and head of its health business, said more users are turning to AI for everyday health support, including logging meals and calculating calories through AQ.
“Weight management is only the starting point,” Zhang said, adding that Ant Group aims to work with more professional partners to provide diversified health services.
