Philippines based software startup company<a href="http://www.appefize.com" target="_blank"> Appefize</a> has launched a new content-to-app platform, that turns entertainment media into &#8220;freemium&#8221; gamified multi-platform mobile apps.
Appefize CEO Russel Tomas said by early next year, the company is contemplating an angel round or Series A funding.
Co-founded by Carlos Campa, Terry Davies, Johnjee Aniban, and Steph Ong, Appefized opened last April with a seed capital of $300,000.
Tomas explained the Celebrity Apps, run on the company&#8217;s own content, and is launching individual apps of local celebrities. &#8220;The main idea is to get everybody with content, to have their own app,&#8221; Tomas said. &#8220;We felt that with celebrities, it will take off faster.&#8221;
Through Appefize&#8217;s app engine platform, the company converts a person&#8217;s media — such as print, images, music, and video — and generates affordable apps, in less time. Such apps may be customised to fit the consumers&#8217; needs, be it service, promo, game or celebrity apps.
Appefize is offering to create apps that will be available for all types of platforms such as iOS, Android, Kindle Fire, Windows 8 Mobile, among others.
The Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) firm has so far created apps for 50 local celebrities ranging from Filipino movie stars, singers to local athletes. Over a hundred more artists have agreed to have their own apps.
Tomas said Celebrity Apps is scheduled to be launched in the next few weeks. &#8220;The release of the apps will be free. We have ads coming in through our ad network partners as well as our own internal ads. Right now we&#8217;re working with 12 ad networks globally,&#8221; he said.
Tomas said utilising Appefize&#8217;s app engine, the company is able to build apps fast and can even afford to give it out for free, like in the case of the mobile app creation for the National Power Corporation (NPC), a state-run power firm.
The Napocor App will monitor 17 large dams that it operates and maintains.The app, that will be launched next month, is meant to enable an early warning system for downstream flooding.
