Asia Digest: Ekuinas invests in Ain Medicare; WHOOP raises $575m Series G

WHOOP, the US-based human performance company, has raised $575 million in Series G funding from several Asian investors and star athletes, while Ekuiti Nasional Berhad has invested in Ain Medicare Sdn Bhd.

Malaysia’s Ekuinas invests in Ain Medicare

Ekuiti Nasional Berhad (Ekuinas) has announced its investment in Ain Medicare Sdn Bhd (Ain Medicare), a home-grown manufacturer of sterile parenteral pharmaceutical products.

The transaction, made via Ekuinas’ RM1 billion Tranche IV fund, will see the Malaysian state-owned investor acquire a strategic minority shareholding in the company.

Founded in 1993 and headquartered in Kota Bharu, Kelantan, Ain Medicare’s portfolio addresses a wide spectrum of common therapeutic needs, from intravenous solutions and small volume injectables to irrigation solutions and haemodialysis concentrates.

The company was previously backed by VentureTECH, a government-established investment company focused on high-value-added and technology-driven industries.

WHOOP raises $575m Series G round

US-based human performance company WHOOP has raised $575 million in Series G funding at a $10.1 billion valuation in a round led by Collaborative Fund.

The round also saw participation from 2PointZero Group, Qatar Investment Authority, Mubadala Investment Company, Abbott, Mayo Clinic, Macquarie Capital, Glade Brook, B-Flexion, IVP, Foundry, Accomplice, Affinity Partners, Promus Ventures, and Bullhound Capital, alongside a group of prominent global athletes and individual investors.

Individual investors in the round include Cristiano Ronaldo, LeBron James, Rory McIlroy, Reggie Miller, Niall Horan, Karen Wazen, Virgil van Dijk, Mathieu van der Poel, and Shane Lowry.

Global healthcare giant Abbott joined the round as a strategic investor.
