Deep techs, or companies that deploy meaningfully different technologies, have seen their products receive a pandemic boost.
Two such beneficiaries are Singapore-based Biofourmis and Shiok Meats, whose chiefs spoke at the Asia PE-VC Summit 2020 organised by DealStreetAsia in November.
Five-year-old Biofourmis provides clinically validated software therapeutics to better monitor patients, particularly those outside hospitals. The firm’s CEO Kuldeep Singh Rajput said the pandemic has offered a boon to the entire digital-health sector as patients are sceptical of going to hospitals. He was speaking at a panel titled ‘Sunrise sectors in SE Asia’ at the summit.
Cell-based meat firm Shiok Meats, meanwhile, has benefitted from the increasing focus on “food supply and food security, which have been brought up a lot during this [pandemic] period,” said the company’s founder and CEO Sandhya Sriram.
