Software vendor Altium has acquired Upverter while CSL Behring has bought out US biotech firm Calimmune.
<h3>Altium acquires Upverter</h3>
Australia&#8217;s <a href="http://www.altium.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Altium</a>, which provides design software for the electronics industry, has acquired <a href="https://upverter.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Upverter</a>, a Toronto provider of web-based electronic design tools for engineers. Financial terms of the deal are undisclosed.
Upverter has raised more than $3 million and was a portfolio company of <a href="http://versionone.vc/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Version One Ventures</a> since 2013, securing more than $3 million in equity funding.
Upverter&#8217;s business focus is to offer solutions that make hardware and product design approachable, with the company building a cloud-based, collaborative hardware design tool. To date, it claims to have helped more than 45,000 people design more than 80,000 devices as at August 2017.
The acquisition will also see the Upverter team integrated into Altium.

<h3>CSL Behring acquires Calimmune for $91m</h3>
ASX-listed CSL Limited has announced that its unit, CSL Behring, is planning to acquire Calimmune, Inc., a US biotechnology company focused on the development of ex vivo hematopoietic stem cell (HSC) gene therapy with R&amp;D facilities in Pasadena, California, USA and Sydney, for an upfront payment of $91 million.
The deal will grant it operational control of Calimmune. In addition to the upfront payment, the agreement between the parties includes the potential for performance based milestone payments of up to $325 million over a period currently anticipated to be around eight years or more following the closing of the transaction
The acquisition will provide CSL Behring with Calimmune’s pre-clinical asset, CAL-H, an HSC gene therapy for the treatment of sickle cell disease and β-thalassemia, which complements CSL Behring’s current product portfolio and deep expertise in hematology.
