Australia&#8217;s sovereign wealth fund <a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=Future%20Fund">Future Fund</a> has appointed Alicia Gregory to lead its private equity team. She takes over from Stewart Tillyard, who was the PE head on an acting basis since December.
In her new role, Gregory will lead the Future Fund&#8217;s private equity team, relationships with external partners, and the global private equity portfolio, the firm said in a statement.
To be based out of the firm’s Sydney office, Gregory will report to Wendy Norris, Deputy Chief Investment Officer, Private Markets. She has worked within the PE program of wealth manager MLC for the last 14 years.
“Alicia has extensive experience in leading a global private equity team and managing a sophisticated program including significant co-investments. She is strongly positioned to lead our team and further develop our successful private equity program,” according to Future Fund’s deputy chief investment officer for private markets Wendy Norris.
DEALSTREETASIA reported in December that the PE head position was vacated late last year after three of the firm&#8217;s most senior members resigned to set up their own businesses. The three executives who have left the firm are PE head Steve Byrom, director David Simons, and investment director Jasmina Osmanovic.
Tillyard, head of unlisted property, was appointed the acting head of the private equity since then. Future Fund said it will add senior staff to the private equity team.
Future Fund was valued at A$147 billion as of December 2018 and has returned 9.7 per cent annually over the last 10 years, against a target benchmark return of 6.6 per cent per annum.
Established to strengthen the Australian government’s long-term financial position, the Future Fund Board of Guardians, supported by the Future Fund Management Agency, is responsible for investing the assets of the Future Fund.
Last year, the fund announced leading a $140-million series E round for US-based orbital launch provider Rocket Lab with participation from Greenspring Associates, Khosla Ventures, Bessemer Venture Partners, DCVC, Promus Ventures, K1W1, and ACC.
