E-scooter sharing startup Beam’s plans to launch its services in Singapore appear to have hit a speed bump. The mobility startup can only roll out its operations in the city-state next year, per a statement by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) of Singapore.

Beam, which was co-founded by the former Asia chief for Chinese bike-sharing major Ofo, this week announced raising $6.4 million (S$8.8 million) in seed funding led by Sequoia Capital India, Founders Fund, ZhenFund and Class 5 Global. The startup plans to use the proceeds to roll out its e-scooter fleet, develop its mobile app, and grow the team to support the upcoming operations in Singapore.
