Alternative asset manager <a style="color: #000080;" href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/stories/india-carlyle-group-merges-growth-buyout-verticals-80468/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Carlyle Group</a> has roped in Wanlin Liu into the private equity team as a Managing Director to lead growth investments in China.
Based in Shanghai, Liu is an addition to Carlyle&#8217;s effort to build on its position in the region.
Prior to Carlyle, Liu was Managing Director of the Principal Investment Area (PIA) of Goldman Sachs in Asia. With 13 years of experience in private equity, she has been involved with successful deals including Gan &amp; Lee Pharmaceuticals, Best Inc. and Daesung Industrial Gases.
“Wanlin has deep experience in private equity and she will be a strong addition to our China team. We believe there are significant and exciting growth investment opportunities in China and across the region,” said X D Yang, Managing Director and Chairman of Carlyle Asia.
She is a native Chinese and a graduate of Grinnell College.
Carlyle established a presence in Asia in 1998 and has nine offices in the region. The firm has invested over $14.7 billion in equity and currently has $11.6 billion of assets under management in its Asian private equity platform. In China, it has invested over $7.5 billion in over 90 transactions in as of September 30, 2017.
The group&#8217;s total global assets under management are worth $174 billion. It invests across four segments – Corporate Private Equity, Real Assets, Global Market Strategies and Investment Solutions – in Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, the Middle East, North America and South America.
