Global asset management firm <a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/tag/Carlyle-Group">Carlyle Group</a> has closed a new private equity fund at $264.3 million, according to a filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
The Carlyle Private Equity Access Fund IV is targeted at high net-worth individuals (HNIs) and received commitments from as many as 413 investors.
The fund is the latest private equity access fund launched by Carlyle. The first was the Carlyle Private Equity Access Fund 2014, which raised $144 million.
The fund, according to reports, provides HNIs with access to various Carlyle private equity funds for qualified purchasers – people with at least $5 million in investable assets, according to a source. The minimum $250,000 commitment is evenly divided between a small number of Carlyle funds.
Founded in 1987 in Washington, Carlyle claims to have $210 billion of assets under management across 335 investment vehicles. It currently boasts 31 offices in North America, South America, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia and Australia.
As of June 2018, Asia accounts for the smallest proportion of the group’s overall assets under management at only 10 per cent.
Carlyle’s existing portfolio firms in Asia include Chinese internet giant Tencent’s e-book unit China Literature and India-based Metropolis Healthcare, a global operator of pathology laboratories.
The PE firm recently raised a new Asia private equity fund of $6.6 billion, which is 65 per cent bigger than its previous Asia buyout fund.
Last month, Carlyle closed its biggest fund yet, raising $18.5 billion buyout fund to be deployed in the U.S. across five industries, including aerospace, defence and government services.
