Stuck in regulatory crosshairs in the US and elsewhere, short video app TikTok has unwittingly achieved a level of notoriety that would make some influencers on its platform envious. Its legal troubles have done little, if any, damage to its position as the social media app of choice for millions of users, not least in the Asia Pacific.
With 598 million users at the end of 2022, APAC was TikTok’s largest market outside China, accounting for 41% of the app’s global user base, according to data compiled by Business of Apps.
