Beijing-based <a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=China%20Creation Ventures">China Creation Ventures</a> (CCV), a telecom, media, and technology (TMT)-focused venture capital firm, has closed a new fund with nearly $200 million in commitments.
According to a <a href="http://36kr.com/p/5144669.html?ktm_source=feed">36Kr report</a>, the latest fundraising brings CCV&#8217;s total funds under management to close to RMB 3 billion ($440 million). This includes an RMB fund and two USD-denominated funds.
Details about the investors in the latest fund were not immediately available. The closing of the latest fund came more than a year after CCV raised its first fund of RMB 1.5 billion ($220 million).
China Creation Ventures is focused on telecom, media and technology sectors and plans to support the Chinese companies’ globalization effort, innovative technology, big data, artificial intelligence, and entertainment platforms.
“Chinese companies expanding overseas, technology-driven companies, especially those with low cost, high efficiency and massive market, are the focus of China Creation Venture,” according to CCV founder Zhou Wei.
Before founding CCV, Zhou had joined<a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=%20Kleiner Perkins Caufield &amp; Byers China"> Kleiner Perkins Caufield &amp; Byers China</a> in 2007 when its China’s investment team was formed. He was then responsible for Internet, wireless, media and online financial services investments.
Zhou is one of those few Chinese venture partners who formed their own venture funds after holding management positions in well-known investment firms.
CCV’s portfolios include retailer <a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=JD.com">JD.com</a> and its financial arm JD Finance, online audio platform Ximalaya FM, social networking platform Tan Tan Mobile Social, as well as fintech firms CreditEase and Rong360.
“We make sure that everyone has a deep understanding of the industry to be invested and makes their own contributions. We do not rely on a certain celebrity investor and our team is stable,” Zhou said in an official statement cited by 36Kr.
