Beijing-based marketplace for plastic surgery SoYoung has raised its Series E round while Baidu Video has snagged a funding of $100 million, according to media reports.
<h3>Orchid Asia leads SoYoung round</h3>
Private equity firm <a style="color: #000080;" href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=Orchid+Asia+Group">Orchid Asia Group</a> has led a $70-million Series E round in <a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=soyoung">SoYoung</a>, a Beijing-based marketplace for plastic surgery and a social network for nip-and-tuck recipients.
Besides existing investor <a style="color: #000080;" href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=Matrix+Partners+China">Matrix Partners China</a>, the latest round is also joined by new investors BOC International Holdings Limited and Russia-China Investment Fund. SoYoung was valued at over $1 billion in this round, rendering it the status of a unicorn, according to a China Money Network report.
SoYoung, founded in 2013, has attracted over 25 million users in five Asian countries. It claims to have 6,600 medical cosmetic firms and more than 25,000 surgeons on its platform.
SoYoung closed a $29-million series D2 financing round, also led by Orchid Asia, in March this year after it raised $60 million in series D1 round, led by Apax Partners and CDH Investment, last December.
Its lead investors from previous rounds include Win-Win Fund, Trustbridge Partners and Matrix Partners China. The latest round brings a total funding to $229 million to date, according to Crunchbase’s data.
<h3>Baidu Video secures $100m in series B financing</h3>
Video search and content aggregation platform Baidu Video has completed a $100 million series B round led by its parent firm Baidu. The financing is joined by Jadex Capital, Houze Ruyi, and Gfund Management.
The proceeds from the funding will reportedly allow Baidu Video to develop its original content as well as increase the development of cutting-edge technologies such as AI, and short video services.
The company has cooperated with many Chinese mainstream video streaming sites, multi-channel networks, media and PGC producers including 36 krypton, Renren Video, Taomeng and Shell Video, to lay out the short-video content ecosystem.
Such video apps continues to gain popularity in China. Short videos engaged 242 million viewers in the country last year, with projection to grow to 353 million in 2018, according to a report by consulting firm iiMedia Research earlier this year.
Baidu Video was split from Baidu after it raised RMB1 billion in 2016. The parent company is also deepening its involvement in the short video segment. In April, together with Tencent Holdings, Baidu invested RMB617 million in Pear Video.
